Aamir Jamal is a right-arm fast-medium bowler who plays for the Pakistan national cricket team.

  • September 2022: He was added to Pakistan's T20I squad for the series against England and debuted on 28 September 2022 in a T20I match against England.
  • June 2023: Jamal was named to Pakistan's Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka.
  • November 2023: He was selected for the 3-match Test series against Australia and made his debut on 14 December 2023. In his debut, he took 6/111 in the first innings. He became the 14th Pakistani bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test debut.
  • December 2023 (Sydney Test): In his second Test, Jamal scored 82 runs, including a six off Nathan Lyon with a switch hit. He became the second Pakistani cricketer, after Imran Khan, to score over 80 runs and take a six-wicket innings haul in the same match.

Domestic career

Aamir Jamal was born in Mianwali and started his cricket career in 2013. He played in Under-19 tournaments at the regional and departmental levels. After playing for Pakistan's U19 team, he moved to England for club and league cricket. In the 2016/17 season, he joined Hawkesbury Cricket Club in Sydney's Grade Cricket competition.

When Jamal returned to Pakistan, he struggled to get enough chances in Grade II matches. To support his family, he worked as an online taxi driver after buying a car on loan.

Jamal played his first-class debut for Pakistan Television in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on 1 September 2018, and his List A debut in the same season on 22 September 2018 in the Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup. In 2019, he played for Doncaster Town in the ECB Yorkshire South Premier League.

In January 2021, Jamal joined Northern’s squad for the 2020–21 Pakistan Cup. He continued his cricket career in the Yorkshire South Championship and Premier League, playing for Whiston PCCC in 2021 and 2022.

In April 2024, Jamal signed with Warwickshire County Cricket Club and will play for them in the 2024 County Championship and the 2024 T20 Blast.

In August 2024 Aamir was dropped from the Pakistan squad for a Test series against Bangladesh due to a back injury. He got this injury earlier that year while playing in an English county. He went to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore for treatment.

In May 2024 he was left out of the Pakistan T20 squad for the Ireland and England series. Pakistan's captain Babar Azam said that Aamir needs more matches to improve his T20 skills.
